Path 1 · WooCommerce

The extension, installed and connected without a single line of code

“Payer à plusieurs” (Pay together) is added to your current payment methods. Connecting to Copay and Stripe is done from WordPress, with a single button.

What you need

  • WordPress 6.5 or later
  • WooCommerce 8.3 or later
  • A website served over HTTPS
  • A Stripe account

Tested on WordPress 7.1, WooCommerce 11.1, PHP 8.3 and 8.5, with both the classic checkout and the block-based checkout.

  1. Create your Copay account

    Sign up at pay.copaysolution.com/signup with your store name, your email and a password.

  2. Download the extension from your dashboard

    IntégrationWooCommerceTélécharger l'extension

    The Copay dashboard is in French. In English: Integration › WooCommerce › Download the extension.

    Keep the archive as it is: WordPress installs it without unzipping it first.

  3. Install and activate it

    In your WordPress admin:

    PluginsAdd New PluginUpload Plugin

    Choose the archive, then click “Activate”.

  4. Open the Copay settings

    WooCommerceSettingsPaymentsCopay
  5. Click “Connecter ma boutique à Copay” (Connect my store to Copay)

    You land on Copay: log in with the account you just created.

  6. Link Stripe, then click “Autoriser” (Authorize)

    This is the Stripe account your sales will be paid into. Copay takes nothing from it and holds nothing in it.

  7. Automatic return to WordPress

    The key and secret are saved automatically. “Payer à plusieurs” (Pay together) appears at checkout: place an order in test mode to see it.

No code, nothing to copy and paste. Your other payment methods stay the same: “Payer à plusieurs” (Pay together) is shown next to them, for customers who choose it. This label can be renamed in the Copay settings.

Path 2 · Custom website

One request to create the pool, one notification to close it

Your server creates the pool, your customer is redirected to Copay, and you're notified once the total is reached. Allow about half a day of development.

What you need

  • A server that can call an API over HTTPS
  • A public URL to receive the notification
  • A Stripe account
  1. Create your Copay account

    Sign up at pay.copaysolution.com/signup, then link your Stripe account from your dashboard.

  2. Get your key and secret

    IntégrationSite sur mesureDepuis votre serveur

    The Copay dashboard is in French. In English: Integration › Custom website › From your server.

    “Créer une clé secrète” (Create a secret key) gives you the ck_test_… key to call the API. Then enter your server's notification URL (“adresse de notification”): that is what generates the whsec_… secret used to sign our messages. Keep both on your server, never in the browser.

  3. Download the kit from your dashboard

    IntégrationSite sur mesureTélécharger le kit

    In English: Integration › Custom website › Download the kit.

    The step-by-step guide, ready-to-run examples in Node and PHP, and curl requests to try it from a terminal.

  4. Create the pool from your server

    One POST /v1/pools call. Amounts are in cents: 28900 for €289.00.

    curl
    curl -X POST https://pay.copaysolution.com/v1/pools \
      -H "Authorization: Bearer ck_test_…" \
      -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
      -d '{
        "description": "Weekend in Lisbon",
        "target_amount": 28900,
        "currency": "EUR",
        "creator_name": "Camille Roux",
        "creator_email": "camille@example.com",
        "reference": "CMD-1042",
        "success_url": "https://my-site.com/thank-you",
        "cancel_url": "https://my-site.com/cart"
      }'
  5. Redirect the customer to the returned url

    The response contains the pool ID and the address of its page. From there, the customer shares the link and everyone pays their share.

    response
    {
      "id": "cmtkpe9p8…",
      "status": "open",
      "url": "https://pay.copaysolution.com/p/…",
      "target_amount": 28900,
      "deadline": "…"
    }
  6. Receive the pool.completed notification

    When the total is reached, Copay calls your server. Verify the signature with your whsec_… secret, then confirm the order. The kit includes a ready-made verification.

Serverless option: a script and a button

For a simple showcase website or a first test, a script is enough: the button reads the amount from the page and opens the pool.

html
<!-- before the end of <body> -->
<script src="https://pay.copaysolution.com/copay.js"
        data-copay-key="pk_test_…"></script>

<button data-copay data-copay-amount="289.00">
  Pay together
</button>

Less secure for live sales: the amount comes from the browser, where it can be tampered with. To collect real orders, use the call from your server instead. All attributes are described in the kit's guide.

Path 3 · No website

A payment link, sent wherever the group talks

No online store? An activity, an organized trip, a sale by appointment: create a link, send it, and get paid once the total is reached.

  1. Create your Copay account

    Sign-up is open to everyone, no call needed.

  2. Link your Stripe account

    From your dashboard. That's where the money will arrive, in a single payout.

  3. Create a payment link

    Enter what the group is paying for and the total amount, from your dashboard.

  4. Send it

    By text, by email, in a group chat. Everyone pays their share by card, without creating an account, and follows the progress live.

Test risk-free

Run a whole pool before you collect a single euro

Your dashboard starts in test mode. Payments there are simulated by Stripe: no card is charged, and you see the whole flow, from creation to payout.

  • Test card: 4242 4242 4242 4242
  • Any future expiry date, any three-digit security code
  • Switch to live mode from your dashboard once everything works

Questions

Before you start

Do I need to book a call to get started?

No. Sign-up is open to everyone: you create your account, link Stripe and try it in test mode without waiting for anyone. A question? Write to us via “Contact” in the menu.

How much does Copay cost?

1.5% transaction fee.

Does Copay touch my money?

Never. Each share is held as a card authorization directly on your Stripe account, then captured in one go once the total is reached. Copay never holds the funds at any point.

What happens if the total isn't reached?

The authorizations are released and nobody is charged. There are no refunds to process. A pool lasts 7 days at most: that's how long Stripe keeps an amount on hold.

I don't have a Stripe account yet. Is that a problem?

You'll need one, since that's where the funds are paid. Opening a Stripe account is free; you then link it from your Copay dashboard.

My store runs neither on WooCommerce nor on a custom website. What can I do?

Use the payment link: it needs no integration. You create it in your dashboard and send it to the group.

How do I switch from test mode to live sales?

From your Copay dashboard, once your tests are conclusive. On a custom website, remember to replace the test key (ck_test_…) on your server with the live-mode key.
